A visual artist and electroacoustic musician, Dylan Martorell creates sound-based installations and sculptures through an improvised layering of elements drawing on whatever materials and objects are to hand. In Musique Povera, Martorell presents a number of his hand-made musical instruments built from found materials such as discarded tins, plant matter, wood, rocks and metal, and displays a series of drawings on plywood that also function as musical compositions. His work reflects a mix of cultural influences including Southeast Asian music traditions and the early American diddley bow whilst also acknowledging links with the European movements of French Musique Concrete and Italian Arte Povera.
